Gatsby Dazzles

One of this summer’s box-office hits is The Great Gatsby, a film based on the novel of the same name by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The story takes place during the Jazz Age on Long Island, outside New York City, and centers around a mysterious billionaire, Jay Gatsby. Gatsby’s lavish lifestyle and the parties he hosts at his fairytale mansion are brought to life on-screen by a plethora of dazzling Tiffany jewels and elaborate Prada and Miu Miu costumes that captivate audiences.
Miuccia Prada and celebrated costume designer Catherine Martin came together with Director Baz Lurhmann to create 40 bespoke cocktail and evening dresses for the film. The dresses are made of shimmering silk embroidered with crystal and sequins, furs, fringing, bright shades of emerald, jade, topaz and gold. “Our collaboration with Prada recalls the European flair that was emerging amongst the aristocratic East Coast crowds in the 1920’s,” says Martin.
World-famous jewelry house Tiffany & Co., which released the Great Gatsby Collection, collaborated with Martin for the film. Headpieces, earrings, necklaces and brooches with elaborate diamond designs, lustrous pearls and yellow diamonds, complete the collection. “The jewelry symbolizes the story’s themes of wealth and privilege, and we approached its design with the utmost style and luxury in mind,” says Jon King, Executive Vice President of Tiffany & Co.
Directed by Luhrmann, The Great Gatsby stars Leonardo DiCaprio as the legendary Gatsby, Tobey Maguire as the between-two-worlds Nick Carraway and Carey Mulligan as the elusive Daisy Buchannan. Here we take you on a tour of some of the film’s most luxurious creations.
